Leigh Bishop is one of the most accomplished and well-known technical divers in the world. He first began diving during the late 1980’s in the English Channel, a virtual museum of over 5000 known shipwrecks. Being one of the first sport divers in England to adapt to using mixed, gas he was in a position to explore countless virgin deep shipwrecks around the British Isles. His passion, research and dedication led him to identify scores of previously unknown sites as well as discovering famous wrecks.
During the 1990’s he led the first expedition to explore a shipwreck deeper than 100m in European waters, the British battleship HMS King Edward VII.
As a pioneer of deep shipwreck photography, his iconic images, originally shot on monochrome film, have graced the covers of magazines and books around the world. During the ‘hey day’ of technical diving, he captured just about every high-profile shipwreck expedition with stills and as a deep-water cameraman for television. His photography and writing has inspired many to pick up a camera themselves and write books themselves.
Above water he is a fellow international member of the Explorers Club and a prolific writer and lecturer of shipwreck exploration globally. He lives in England and has three children.
